While selvedge still essentially rules the conversation with regard to men's jeans, the denim debate for women often boils down to rise. From low-riders that create curves but pose muffin top risk, to seemingly-safer high-waisted silhouettes verging dangerously in close proximity to mom jeans, a excellent mid-rise looks current together with flatters most body forms. Neuw's womenswear designer Phoebe Taylor explains the form details were styled so that "your butt looks the perkiest it ever offers. The advanced method to fit disguises itself within the line's decidedly retro-influenced artistic. Taylor tells us they work to enhance upon the timeless style by culling the most effective details from their comprehensive vintage stock. "We reminisce about the years of the depression in the 1930s, and ogle the beautiful care that's taken in repairing garments and getting the most out of what was available, " Taylor teaches. "We have taken this appreciation aboard when creating new styles from this climate. It's the days of the DIY culture. "
Neuw, in working together with the challenges of designing for different body forms, while also competing in the over-saturated denim market, earns the rare distinction of bringing a brand new perspective to women's jeans. Par Lundqvist, creative movie director of Neuw Denim, isnât only a denim designer â heâs some sort of denim collector, and a pretty avid one at that. He owns approximately 3, 000 sets of jean pants, jackets and shirts â most of which were purchased at second-hand stores in their native country, Sweden. (Fun fact: Sweden is your worldâs highest per capita customer of denim). Lundqvistâs collection spans days gone by hundred years, but his favourite periods are definitely the mid-1950s (think James Dean along with the original rockabillies) along with the late-1970s (the era with the Velvet Underground, Andy Warholâs Factory and drain pipes).
Unsurprisingly, Neuw Denimâs collections possess a vintage feel about them. In fact, Lundqvist has penned the concept of a âvintage revisionâ to describe the approach of re-cutting jeans to make the perfect fit together with adding contemporary tweaks like darts in the ankle for a slight taper. Neuw Denimâs Summer 2011 collection is filled with âvintage revisedâ details. Washed out slim fit jeans are paired with indigo button-ups and duster coats; lightweight chinos within mustard and burgundy perfectly complement striped tees together with gingham shirts. The womens range features several high-waisted styles, lace bustiers and sheer blouses.
